Grant Description:
The short term objective of Painting with Pat, Inc, (PWP), matching grant initiative is to create a decentralized assessment and allocationprocess for certain privately donated dollars and materials. A long-term objective is to promote environmental education, create opportunities for meaningfulcommunity involvement and create a real life connection to the environment and wildllife that weaves through the curriculum enlivening teaching and learning highlighting the school's educational mission in each of Tennessee's 95 counties.
To implement this grant initiative, Painting with Pat, Inc. (PWP) works in partnership with several designated agencies and organizations to administer art programs to all 95 couonties in Tennessee.

Grant Guidelines:
PWP provides funds for a variety of quality art projects, that are approved Growing Up Green, (GUG) programs. Funds awarded to a single organization in the category range from $500.00 to $5,000.00. Grant funds in this category must be matched dollar-for-dollar. (One-to-one dollare match means the applicant must cover at least half the cost of a project or program through other income resources. The 2009 - 2010 Growing Up Green Matching Grant amount is $1,500.00

The purpose of Painting With Pat, Inc., (Growing Up Green), matching grant is to give kids the opportunity to connect to wildlife and nature through exciting, hands on art activities!

Why include 'Environmental Learning', 'Growing Up Green' in the schools?Studies show that schools that use 'Environmental Learning' produce significant student gains in art, social studies, science, language arts, and math.
Children in the 'Growing Up Green, environmental education show improvement in self-esteem, problem solving and motivation to learn
Research also show that outdoor experiences motivated through creative art projects help reduce negative stress and protect psychological well being, especially in children undergoing stressful life events.
Who benefits from'Growing Up Green', Environmental Education?
Children develop knowledge and skill as they undertake exciting, real-life projects motivated by the arts. By cross-curriculum learning through the arts, students study science, math and related subjects, students can connect to their local environment and become stewards of their community's natural resources.
Teachers can use the broad context of the natural world to enliven teaching and learning that can weave through the curriculum from kindergarten through the twelfth grande and beyond. Schools can build cohesion within the school, create oportunities for meaningful community involvement and diversify and beautify the school yar, enhance art skills, while highlighting its educational mission.

How does the 'Growing Up Green' program fit into the school curriculum?
Educators play a critical role in inspiring young people to have a positive impact on the natural environment. Thier willingness to take advantage of PWP programs that bring environmental and conservation learning right to their classrooms display to the students the importance of environment education.

A wide array of classes, projects, and teaching materials are available through Painting With Pat, Inc., continuous throughout the year at our Education page. and Art On Wheels page!
that meet specific grade levels and learning objectives. Many are correlated with state and national educational standards.

Students improve their skills in writing, art, computer technology and science as they participate in environmental learning in a broad context.

Students can work with peers, other classes, across grades and schools. They will build character traits of responsibility and team work,a nd make important decisions that build confidence and resiliency.

Schedule of programs are flexible, PWP, cross curriculum programs may be implemented during a science, social studies or art class time.

PWP matching grant initiative provides a licensed, professional art instructor to conduct the class, lesson plans, class motivational materials/media, opportunity for community engagement, raise positive environmental/conservation awareness, connect youth and their families to nature, and all the supplies necessary to complete the project.
